The Yale University Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health are jointly recruiting a Director of the Yale Institute for Global Health (YIGH). The next leader of YIGH will be provided with the responsibility and resources necessary to further expand global health activities across Yale’s campus and beyond the university, including the development of innovative research, clinical and educational programs.
Harnessing the breadth of expertise of the three lead schools (medicine, nursing, and public health), as well as the university and its international partners, YIGH serves as a hub for global health activities at Yale. Through active collaboration across disciplines and by catalyzing opportunities for innovation, YIGH aims to promote the translation of scientific discoveries into better health for all, while training the next generation of leaders in global health. It currently has 237 affiliated faculty, 14 faculty networks, has provided $1.1M in seed funding to faculty and students, and supports four flagship programs (see “Fast Facts” below, for more).
Candidates will ideally have a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent) and a record of achievement in global health, as evidenced by sustained extramural funding and excellence in teaching, mentoring, and/or service. Candidates without a doctoral degree must have substantial prior senior leadership experience in a public, private and/or non-profit sector organization focused on global health.
Additional qualifications include experience in an administrative leadership role within a university or related entity, prior work in low- and middle-income countries, and a strong commitment to equitable interdisciplinary partnerships in global health. Candidates must also have a clear commitment to and experience in fundraising.
The YIGH Director will hold a joint appointment across the participating health science schools, with a primary appointment determined by the candidate’s background and professional experience. It is expected that the successful candidate will satisfy Yale University requirements for appointment at the tenured Professor level.
Applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and curriculum vitae online at the Interfolio link below. Review of candidates will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. Confidential queries should be directed to Michael Cappello, MD, Professor and Chair of the Search Committee and Interim Director, Yale Institute for Global Health. All application materials and correspondence will be kept confidential.
