    Biography

Brittany Craiglow, MD, is a pediatric dermatologist and a leading expert in how alopecia areata, a chronic skin condition that causes hair loss, negatively affects health and quality of life in young patients. “It’s a devastating disorder. Having hair, eyebrows and eyelashes—these are all things most of us take for granted,” she says.

Research done by Dr. Craiglow and her colleagues has shown that people with alopecia areata are 39 percent more likely to develop generalized anxiety disorder or a major depressive disorder in their lifetimes.

Dr. Craiglow, who sees children and adolescent patients at Middlebury Dermatology and Yale Medicine Dermatology Associates in New Haven, has published research in leading medical journals on the effectiveness of a class of therapies called Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors for alopecia areata and associated disorders.
