Biography

Astha Chichra, MBBS, is a pulmonary and critical care specialist who cares for hospitalized patients. She is the director of the progressive pulmonary care unit and associate medical director of the intensive care unit (ICU) at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Chichra says the complex pathophysiology involved in pulmonary medicine and the ability to help patients through a tough time attracted her to the field. “The patients in the ICU are the sickest of the sick, and the responsibility of helping patients through this challenging time in their lives is extremely rewarding and humbling,” she says.

An assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Chichra focuses her research interests on the use of point-of-care ultrasound in critical care, quality improvement in the medical ICU, chronic respiratory failure and education.
