- 00:00As creative leaders in medicine and science,
- 00:03we constantly push boundaries to advance
- 00:05medicine for the benefit of humanity.
- 00:08Through groundbreaking research,
- 00:09we're unlocking the complexities
- 00:11of the human brain and its vast
- 00:13neural networks. We're trying to impact
- 00:16lives every day when we come to the lab.
- 00:19The scientific problems of today can't be
- 00:21answered from one perspective.
- 00:23Your School of Medicine
- 00:24is it's my favorite place,
- 00:26creates the opportunity and creates
- 00:29the environment for enquiry.
- 00:31And for for people to ask questions. One
- 00:33of the things that that I've realized
- 00:35that as a clinical psychologist I
- 00:38have certain kinds of training,
- 00:40but when I combine that with people
- 00:42with different expertise, we can
- 00:44ask fundamentally different
- 00:45kinds of questions.
- 00:46So you see people from clinical departments,
- 00:49basic science departments,
- 00:50putting their heads together to
- 00:51tackle one single problem regardless
- 00:53of of where they come from. And I
- 00:56think that diversity of thoughts and
- 00:58also of profession is pretty powerful.
- 01:01A study that we lead here has
- 01:03actually led to the FDA's first
- 01:05investment into biomarkers for autism
- 01:07or for any psychiatric condition.
- 01:10So this is really literally an
- 01:12unprecedented milestone for the
- 01:13field of psychiatry and neuroscience.
- 01:15We have you know at Yale,
- 01:18you know trials for Parkinson's disease.
- 01:20We also have the same in Alzheimer's
- 01:23disease where we have new targets,
- 01:25new drugs, we have large clinical trials,
- 01:28multi centre clinical trials.
- 01:30In stroke, that has been
- 01:33ongoing in autism research.
- 01:36In children and in neurodiverse populations.
- 01:38In epilepsy, the same thing can be
- 01:40said in psychiatry where we've the
- 01:42the the ketamine was founded here
- 01:44and now it's in various clinical
- 01:47trials for depression and for post
- 01:49traumatic stress disorder. And
- 01:50one of the problems that we want to
- 01:53tackle is teen mental health and just
- 01:56looking at over the last few years it's
- 01:59it's at this all time high one of the
- 02:02exciting initiatives at the School
- 02:04of Medicine. Is a centre for
- 02:06brain and mind health experts.
- 02:08On all different kinds of conditions related
- 02:11to the brain and related to the mind,
- 02:14from psychiatric conditions to stroke,
- 02:16share ideas that aren't limited
- 02:18by their medical training,
- 02:19by their scientific background,
- 02:21by the condition that they study so the Yale
- 02:24School of Medicine. Cultivates
- 02:27innovators that are the cusp of the
- 02:30next breakthrough. Philanthropy and
- 02:32science go hand in hand,
- 02:34and So what philanthropy lets
- 02:36us do is to be bold. It lets us take risks.
- 02:41It lets us do studies that hold promise.
- 02:44Learn how your gift can support
- 02:46vital and innovative projects that
- 02:49help us learn more about the brains,
- 02:51myriad relationships and connections.
