Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Office of Academic & Professional Development
The Office of Academic & Professional Development (OAPD) is seeking nominations or self-nominations for the position of associate dean for faculty affairs. Reporting to the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, this faculty leadership position works closely with other faculty and staff leaders within OAPD and other offices of the Dean of Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Teamwork, consultation, project development and implementation which supports and strengthens faculty lifecycle are required skills.
The activities listed below are some examples of responsibilities and may evolve or change over time.
- Serve as liaison between OAPD and a cluster of Basic Science, Bridge, and/or Clinical departments on faculty appointment, reappointment, and promotion/tenure processes. Provide consultation on readiness or trajectory for promotion and track alignment.
- Provide support, consultation, training, and evaluation for faculty feedback and mentoring initiatives within YSM departments. Lead career development program improvement initiatives for one or more faculty groups, e.g., research ranks, research intensive ladder (CS, I, T tracks), and/or clinically intensive ladder (AC and CES track).
- In collaboration with the Office of Physician Scientist and Scientist Development (OPSSD) and the OAPD Professionalism and Leadership Team, provide leadership support and consultation to YSM departments on the effective implementation of the Faculty Development Annual Questionnaire (FDAQ) process.
- Expand and Co-Chair an appointments and promotions committee for reviewing non-ladder appointments for research, adjunct, and voluntary rank faculty.
- Collaborate with YSM groups, committees, and affinity groups on projects focused on career development and mentoring for faculty traditionally under-represented or under-served in academic medicine.
- Serve as OAPD liaison with MD/PhD program and Office of Postdoctoral Affairs on faculty pipeline and career planning initiatives and review of Visiting Fellow and Laboratory Associate appointments.
- Collaborate with OAPD Professionalism and Leadership Team in the development and delivery of services supporting faculty leadership, wellbeing, and resilience.
- Attend or lead committees, workgroups, or task forces as needed. Lead YSM appointment and promotion committees in the absence of the Co-Chairs.
- Lead or participate in other initiatives identified by the Dean’s Office that support faculty lifecycle services or processes.
